General Manager

Obishikokaang Resource Corporation (ORC) employs a General Manager who takes responsibility for growing forestry-related business interests in Lac Seul First Nation’s traditional territory on behalf of ORC.  The General Manager’s responsibilities encompasses oversight of day-to-day forest operations, management of all forest licenses (including overlapping), financial oversight, and generation of new business opportunities on behalf of ORC, management of staffing requirements and contracts, and corporate communications. In doing so, the General Manager has to ensure that all legal requirements are being met by the Corporation.

The General Manager’s responsibilities include:

  • Tenure administration and permitting, including appraisal submissions
  • Strategic planning of harvest volume
  • Oversight of field crews and office staff
  • First Nation and stakeholder communications and consultation
  • Management of operational planning requirements, including site plans, harvest plans and reporting
  • Maintenance of the Forest Stewardship Plan
  • Silviculture planning, implementation, tracking and reporting
  • Contract administration
  • Budgeting and cost management
  • Meeting all harvesting and road supervision requirements

Job requirements:

  • A post-secondary degree in forestry or related natural resources field of study, engineering or business administration
  • At least 5-10 years’ experience in forestry management
  • At least 10 years’ progressive leadership experience in the natural resources sector
  • Expert knowledge of the natural resources sector and strong business acumen, financial analysis and strategic planning skills
  • Extensive knowledge of legal regulations and requirements applicable to Ontario’s forest industry
  • Direct forestry experience in tenure management, development and planning, and harvesting supervision
  • Preference will be given to those registered as RPFs with the Ontario Professional Foresters’ Association
