Summer Student Program / Forest Experience Program

Students are picked by the Lac Seul First Nations Band to attend the Program.  Students are put in a general pool with their first, second and third choice for employment. The band then sends The Forest Experience Program Supervisor a list of student’s names who will be attending the program so they can be placed in one of their identified employment choices.

Our students are expected to work! This is a manual labour position and they are outside for 5 days a week.  Students require all safety equipment and each year the Forest Experience Program Supervisor would greet the students and conduct a lecture on safety and what to expect.

What is offered to the Students during this program:

  • First aid training
  • Tour of our forestry operations, the Domtar Mill.
  • Resume building workshop
  • Pick cones for cash 2-3 days during the summer
  • Tour a tree nursery

Some of the tasks they do:

  • fix roads signs;
  • prune the orchards
  • clean bridges
